Buyers Beware!

Buyers Beware!

Pila Xian

You aren’t getting a bargain when you buy skincare products online—you’re getting gipped.

There’s a reason my product display doesn’t look like an aisle in the grocery store. You know what you’re getting when you purchase your favorite skin products from an authorized dealer.

Have you ever bought a designer knock-off thinking you’d gotten away with something only to understand the old adage, “buyers beware,” as soon as you realize that for as little as you’d paid, you wasted your money on a piece of junk?

Well I have news for you: it’s the same thing with your skincare products.

I know what you’re thinking: “She’s just trying to sell me something.” And I suppose I am. But please know and understand it’s only because I care about you and your skin. If you are my client, how your skin looks is a reflection on me. If you only knew how much I agonize over what skincare product lines to carry or how much I put my reps through! I am probably their biggest nightmare because I demand the best for my clients. And if a product line doesn’t deliver, I won’t carry it.

Believe it or not, when I am choosing what products to carry, one of the most important things I consider is price point. Just because this is Aspen doesn’t mean people wan to spend their money on La Mer. And the truth is, some of those luxury brands are overpriced. The bottom line is value. Whatever it costs, it has to be worth the money.

So I totally understand why you might think you can find the products I carry for less money on Amazon or eBay. And maybe you can—find the cheaper prices, that is. But what you may not realize is that these products are often counterfeit, or past their expiration date, or not what they say they are.

For a whole slew of reasons, these products are simply no good.

Unless you buy products from an authorized distributor, there’s now way to know for sure where they came from. Often times, products with expired barcodes will be sold and then redistributed at a discounted price. It’s not just the barcodes that expire—the products themselves have a shelf life too. There’s no way of knowing how the products were stored, if they got too hot or too cold. The consistency might not be the same and chances are the product isn’t going to be as effective. If you’ve ever shopped online for a product, read the reviews. You might be interested to see the evidence is there—consumers often report that a product isn’t the same as when they bought it directly from an authorized party.

I know that in today’s day and age we feel like we can find anything we need online, especially when it comes to hunting for deals. But trust me (because I would never, ever lie to you) when it comes to beauty products, you don’t have to buy them from me, but you absolutely have to buy them from an authorized dealer.

Pila recommends: If you want a good deal, check out my line of skincare products from Skin Script. These are some of the best products I carry, and very affordably priced!
