Join me in a new kind of stretching experience in Aspen: Yamuna body rolling. I love that I am able to help my guests relieve pain or tension after each massage, but I know that sometimes they have chronic symptoms and that their discomfort will eventually return. To give my clients help for the long-term, I became certified in instructing YBR to bring it back to Heaven on Earth Aspen.
Take Back Your Independence
I know what many of you are thinking— “Yamuna what??” This rolling technique is a series of routines using different sized balls to stretch muscles. It feels like you’re ironing out your muscles, getting all the kinks out. It is similar to the raved-about foam roller but more effective because it allows you to target specific muscles in depth.
Once you’ve learned from an instructor the different routines, you are able to do them on your own. YBR empowers you by giving you the ability to restore your own body back to its natural balance and alignment.
Working with the Bone
Other types of stretching mostly work with the body of the muscle, but YBR stimulates the bone and works the muscle’s entire length, including the tendons. YBR is different because we actually work with bone. Bone is living tissue. They have their own blood vessels and are made of living cells, which help them to grow and to repair themselves. YBR uses your own weight as weight bearing so that you stimulate and strengthen your bone mass and density.
Throughout your session, you will create a sort of relationship with the ball. Learn to trust the ball and relax into it. Do not use your strength to lift away or press down. Instead, let go into the ball. Relax your mind and body, allowing the ball to elongate your muscles. This change in focus will allow you to get the full benefits of Yamuna body rolling.
After a YBR session you will always feel like your body is lifted and moving and that standing tall is effortless. It is a way to connect the body and mind, making you properly present in the body, not just “going through the motions.”
It’s Helped Me Too
I wouldn’t offer anything to my clients unless I know it works, so I made myself a guinea pig—and loved it. For me personally, I have chronic sacroiliac (low back) pain. When I do Yamuna body rolling, I can feel less pain and more stability right away. I am very excited to offer its benefits to my clients in Aspen!
