First, let’s talk about professionally done facials. For some reason facials are seen as a luxury, but they are definitely a necessity to skincare. Typically, you should get one facial a month. They remove the top layer of dead skin that naturally builds up over time, clearing congested pores, rehydrating skin and generally making you look more youthful. They also keep your skin balanced despite seasonal or hormonal fluctuations. Plus, you get expert advice from a licensed esthetician who has gotten to know your skin and what exactly it needs. Facials can even entirely change a person’s skin, like my client from my Saving Face blog. Read my blog Saving Face, about how the Intraceuticals Oxygen Facial at Heaven on Earth lessened her sebaceous hyperplasia after just one facial.
Skin health is kind of like dental health—it’s just as important what you do at home as it is that you go to a professional regularly. Sometimes people think that getting a monthly facial is enough to compensate for bad habits at home, but this isn’t the case. Would you show up to the dentist’s office without brushing your teeth between visits? You shouldn’t go a day without brushing or flossing your teeth, and the same idea goes for your face. Here are the minimum 4 daily steps to taking care of your skin:
1. Cleansing
Take off the day’s dirt, make up and pollutants with a cleanser that does not strip the skin of its natural oils or moisture.
2. Toning
Toners add more actives tailored to your skin concerns (make sure you aren’t seeing any makeup on your cotton ball) and balance the PH levels of your skin.
3. Moisturizing
Moisturize your skin to replenish it after cleansing and toning. Slow down the aging process and control oil levels with the right moisturizer for your skin type.
4. Protecting against sun exposure
Many people forget this step, but it is so important to protect your skin from UVA/UVB rays. Too much sun means premature aging and could even possibly mean skin cancer.
Weekly skincare should also include masking and exfoliation. Mask regularly especially in winter when most skins—even oily—get dehydrated. And make sure that the products you use are high quality to get the results you really want. While drug store and MLM products are not terrible, professional lines are able to have higher active %’s because they are sold by licensed estheticians. Take the time to invest in quality products like the ones in my Heaven on Earth online store and spa and you will see noticeable results.
You only get one face to last your entire life so you should take care of it, both at home and by getting facials. Call (970) 925-2278 or email me at heavenonearthaspen@gmail.com to set up an appointment.
