Heaven on Earth’s Dermaplaning Facial
Pila XianDermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation. It’s similar to microdermabrasion but without the use of suction or abrasive crystals.
A sterile surgical grade scalpel is lightly grazed along the skin to gently remove dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin—the skin you can touch, see and feel.
Dermaplaning has the added benefit of removing the fine vellus hair, aka, peach fuzz and light facial hair, and leaves the face with a very smooth surface. It works on all skin types and can also reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars.
Dermaplaning can even be done on women with sensitive skin or rosacea. Depending on how severe the rosacea is, I can either go lightly over the rosacea or Dermaplane around it.
Pre-Dermaplaning Treatment
Discontinue use of all products containing any exfoliating agents for 24-48 hours before treatment. Check your product labels for ingredients such as retinoic acid, tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, astringents, etc.
If you have a history of herpes or cold sores, you may require a course of anti-viral medication pre and post-treatment.
What To Expect During Your Dermaplaning Appointment
Yes, you can feel it and no, it doesn’t hurt. Most of my clients say that receiving Dermaplaning feels very relaxing and even go into a meditative state or drift off.
It’s really not more than shaving any other body part, but because we aren’t using a razor that has been covered to reduce any cutting risk to you, it’s a much deeper exfoliation. I am taking off your skin barrier along with the top layer of dead skin cells, so you may feel a bit tingly afterwards.
An appointment for the face is up to 45 minutes. For the face and décolleté, 60 minutes.
Post-Dermaplaning Treatment and Home Care
After your Dermaplaning appointment, you’ll need to wear an SPF 30 or higher for the following two weeks. But really, aren’t you already wearing it every day? (You should be.)
Do not use any products containing any exfoliating agents for the first 48 hours. Check labels for retinoic acid, retinol, tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, astringents, etc. Instead, wash your face twice a day with a gentle, non-active cleanser such as Intraceuticals Gentle Cleanser, followed by a hydrating serum, and moisturizer.
Always call if you have any concerns. More sensitive skin may experience some redness, which typically goes away within a couple of hours. Dermaplaning can cause minor superficial abrasions, like a paper cut, which may not appear until a day or two following your treatment. There is no cause for alarm and can be expected to heal within a day or two.
